Russians have become more likely to choose ready-made meals instead of traditional home-cooked dinners and pastries. This was stated on February 21 in a study by the independent company ICMR (GFC-Rus) conducted for RIA Novosti.

In 2025, about 14,000 people participated in the survey, who kept food diaries on weekdays and weekends. In total, experts analyzed 47 thousand cases of food intake. The previous similar study was conducted in 2019.

"There was a 7 percentage point increase in agreement with the statement: "I don't see anything wrong with eating fast food sometimes." On the contrary, the popularity of traditional food models [homemade cakes, first courses, family dinners together] decreased by 6-7 percentage points," the authors of the study reported.

The authors of the study also noted the significant growth of the ready-to-cook market. For the period from June 2023 to June 2025, sales in this segment increased by 85% in monetary terms and reached 81.4 billion rubles. The volume of sales of frozen ready meals increased by 60% over the same period.

According to analysts, the dynamics is primarily related to the trend towards convenience and speed of cooking, as well as the desire of consumers to diversify their diet, rather than the need to save time.

Therapist, Ph.D. Andrey Kondrakhin on February 10 named the risks for those who often use ready-made food delivery. According to him, this can lead to deterioration of health. He also noted that by itself, refusing to order ready-made food is not a problem: the home-cooked diet can also be monotonous and meager.
