Breathing is the main way dogs thermoregulate, but sometimes it turns into tachypnea — abnormally rapid breathing. This is an important symptom that cannot be ignored, and it is necessary to distinguish the norm from pathology, said Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, on Friday, February 20.

"It is important for the owner to assess the situation: has the pet just been running, is it scared, or is it just happy to meet you? If the dog is breathing heavily at rest, in a cool room, and there are accompanying dramatic changes in behavior, you can not delay. It's better to show the animal to the vet right away than to blame yourself for inaction," he said in an interview with Radio 1.

He noted that thermoregulation is one of the most common causes of heavy breathing. Sticking out your tongue is the main way to escape from the heat or recover from active running. Normally, such breathing passes quickly.

Another reason for rapid breathing is emotional arousal, a way to reduce stress or overexcitation from joy.

In addition, the causes of tachypnea can be diseases of the cardiovascular system, pneumonia and pulmonary edema, endocrine disorders, poisoning or anaphylactic shock.

According to the dog handler, it can be difficult to distinguish standard physiological reactions from truly dangerous conditions. The first thing to pay attention to is if rapid breathing is observed even at rest and in a cool room, and the pet is anxious and tense, or on the contrary, apathetic.

On the same day, the expert told RT that even a slippery floor in the house poses a serious threat to dogs, so ice is all the more a high-risk area.

On February 17, a dog handler told the Moscow City News agency that cruel methods of dog training, including the use of electric shock collars, are unacceptable in the modern world, and such methods of pet education should be left in the past.

He noted that one of the signs of a dog handler's lack of professionalism is the use of outdated training methods based on dominance and submission. He stressed that a professional would not use methods such as jerks, garrotes or electric shock collars. 360.ru .

Earlier, on February 6, Golubev said that human fear has a smell, and dogs are able to recognize it — however, this does not mean that the animal will necessarily react with aggression.

According to him, the ability of dogs to "read" human emotions is not related to mysticism or telepathy. We are talking about a combination of a developed sense of smell and high powers of observation. Animals do not have abstract thinking, but they respond well to changes in human behavior and physiological state.
