- A charity hockey match will be held in Moscow for the benefit of wounded soldiers of the SVR
On February 23, a charity hockey match dedicated to Defender of the Fatherland Day will be held at the skating rink of the Moscow Seasons cycle of urban street events on Sukhonskaya Street. The ice competition will bring together renowned athletes and active officers. The main purpose of the meeting is to collect gifts and letters for the SVO fighters undergoing rehabilitation in military hospitals in Moscow, the organizers said.
The Hockey Legends team and the Russian Officers national team will meet on the ice. Sergei Kasimov, Alexander Shaurin, Evgeny Kiryakin, Alexander Bakanov, Vladislav Khatkov, Peter Bogomolov, Oleg Shabunevich and Dmitry Volvach were announced as officers.
The Hockey Legends team will feature two-time world champion, Gagarin Cup winner and Russian champion Vitaly Proshkin; world youth champion and best sniper of the Danish Championship Evgeny Shtepa; Russian champion of 2021 and Gagarin Cup winner Nikita Komarov; three-time Russian champion, bronze medalist of the World Championship Anastasia Legkodukh and other stars of Russian hockey. In total, each team will have 15 players on the ice.
Athletes and officers will bring gifts and souvenirs for their fighters to the match. After the final siren, an autograph session will take place, during which participants will sign pucks, sticks and jerseys. All collected gifts and messages will be transferred to military hospitals in Moscow.
"Such matches have already become a good tradition. They are important not only as a sporting event, but also as a sincere gesture of support for those who defend our country today. When legendary athletes and officers go on the ice together, they set an example of unity and remind the fighters that they are remembered and expected at home. Every puck passed, every letter of thanks warms the hearts of our defenders. I am sure that this tradition will live on and grow stronger from year to year," said Pavel Gusev, representative of the organizing committee of the Moscow Seasons series of street city events and the Maslenitsa Festival.
