- Beglov discussed the upcoming elections in St. Petersburg with the Chairman of the Central Election Commission
Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg, held a working meeting with Ella Pamfilova, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, the Smolny press service reported. Issues related to the organization of the electoral process in St. Petersburg in 2026 were discussed at the meeting.
"Thank you for your recommendations and attention to St. Petersburg. In recent years, we have significantly improved the interaction between the city's public authorities and election commissions. I am confident that we will conduct combined election campaigns at the federal, regional and local levels with dignity," Alexander Beglov said.
The governor noted that last year was a preparatory stage for the big electoral cycle of 2026. Together with the whole country, the city will have to choose deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Petersburgers will also determine the composition of the Legislative Assembly of the city and elect deputies to several municipal councils. Beglov recalled that this year, for the first time, almost 2,000 polling stations will be set up in the city. It is also planned to create about 50 temporary sites in hospitals, pre-trial detention centers, at Pulkovo Airport, at Moskovsky and Ladozhsky railway stations.
"I would like to thank the city government for the qualitative and dramatic changes that have taken place in the field of organizing elections. In many ways, this is the result of mutual understanding between the CEC and the authorities of St. Petersburg. In the Northern Capital, they always respond to all the needs and problems related to ensuring the activities of election commissions. Together, we will cope with any challenges," Ella Pamfilova emphasized.
Alexander Beglov assured that St. Petersburg will help the election commissions throughout the entire period of preparation for the elections and during the campaign itself. Common tasks include creating conditions for citizens with disabilities to vote, informing voters, organizing video surveillance at polling stations, as well as anti—terrorist protection issues.
