In 2026, the self-employed can receive approval for consumer loans and mortgages if they have a proven stable income and a good credit history. This was announced to Izvestia on February 25 by Alexander Poshtak, lawyer of the Console platform for cooperation with the self-employed.

According to the lawyer, the number of professional income tax payers in Russia in early 2026 exceeded 15 million people. Previously, banks were cautious about evaluating such clients due to income instability, but today credit institutions are working more actively with the self-employed, including through consumer lending and mortgage programs. When reviewing applications, the length of service in the NAP status, the regularity of receipts and credit history are taken into account.

"One of the key factors remains the duration of work in the NAP status. In a number of banks, the minimum length of service is from three to six months. This allows the lender to assess the dynamics of income and ensure its stability. The self-employed with regular admissions for a year or more have the highest chances of approval. If the income demonstrates stability, the bank perceives the borrower as a paying customer," Poshtak said.

According to him, a significant advantage is a positive credit history. Timely repayment of loans and the absence of delinquencies increase the borrower's score in the scoring system. An additional argument may be cooperation with large companies or the availability of parallel income under an employment contract, which allows you to confirm financial stability with statements and contracts.

The expert recommended that you prepare for the application in advance. According to him, it is necessary to check the experience of self-employment in the My Taxes application, if necessary, wait for a longer period of work, generate a certificate of income for the last 6-12 months and request a credit history from the Credit Bureaus. If there are delays, it is advisable to close them before contacting the bank.

"An additional step may be to apply for a credit card with a small limit and use it carefully. This will allow you to form or improve your credit history before applying for a larger loan or mortgage," he concluded.

Denis Morgunov, a member of the Russian Guild of Realtors (RGR) mortgage committee, said on February 17 that unstable employment, that is, experience of less than 3-6 months in the current position, is one of the key reasons for rejecting a mortgage application. At the same time, it was noted that if a borrower has recently got a job, he can use several methods to obtain approval for a loan. For example, to attract a co-borrower.
