European intelligence agents were skeptical about achieving a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine in 2026. This assumption was made by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.

"The heads of European intelligence are pessimistic about the chances of reaching an agreement this year on ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine," the publication says.

On February 19, US President Donald Trump said that he remains confident in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. He noted that the period in which he and his team established peace between the conflicting parties was "unlike" any other in the history of his state.

On the same day, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, expressed confidence that Russia would achieve peace and ensure its security. He stressed that his state supports the negotiations, but is also interested in realizing the goals of the special military operation (SVO). Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on February 19 that settlement negotiations were currently at a stage where they should not be publicly discussed.

The head of the Russian delegation, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky, yesterday called the negotiations between Russia, the United States and Ukraine that ended in Geneva difficult but businesslike. He also announced the holding of new negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine in the near future. In addition, the Russian delegation led by Medinsky held an additional meeting before departing from Geneva.
