People who frequently change sexual partners have an increased risk of contracting the human papillomavirus (HPV), which increases the likelihood of cancer several times. Radmir Akhmerov, oncogynecologist at the SM Clinic, warned about this on Thursday, February 19.
"HPV has long ceased to be an exclusively gynecological problem. This virus is dangerous not only in connection with cervical cancer, as many people know, but also in connection with cancer of the oropharynx," Akhmerov said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
Akhmerov added that throat cancer ranks fifth among all oncological diseases in Russia. At the same time, tumors located in the area of the tonsils, in the root of the tongue or in the soft palate are particularly dangerous.
Earlier in February, oncologist Dmitry Olkin told Izvestia that genetic testing for the diagnosis of hereditary forms of cancer affects treatment tactics, while attempts to interpret it independently without a doctor are dangerous.
