Hungary allowed the termination of gas exports to Kiev due to the shutdown of Druzhba
Hungary is considering the possibility of stopping the export of electricity and gas to Ukraine if Kiev does not resume the supply of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline. This was stated on February 19 by the head of the Hungarian Prime Minister's office, Gergei Guyash, during a speech at a briefing.
"We are also considering the option of stopping the supply of electricity and gas to Ukraine. <...> Further countermeasures will follow if the Ukrainian government does not change its decision and continues to block the Druzhba gas pipeline," the Reuters news agency quoted him as saying.
He also stressed that Hungary is coordinating its actions with Slovakia.
The day before, political scientist and publicist Georgy Dibrov said that Hungary's decision to stop supplying diesel fuel to Ukraine was a forced countermeasure to Kiev's steps and was not directed against Ukrainians. He pointed out that Hungarian fuel supplies account for more than 10% of total imports to Ukraine. In the case of a reduction in such supplies, the consequences may manifest themselves after a few months and affect the economic and military spheres.
At the same time, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the country had stopped the supply of diesel fuel to Ukraine until the oil supply through the Druzhba pipeline resumed. He also called on Hungarian citizens to support a national petition against Ukrainian blackmail.
