Daniel Radcliffe supports the new cast of the Harry Potter series
Actor Daniel Radcliffe has called on fans of the Harry Potter films to support the young actors from the new HBO series and not compare them with the previous cast. All the details are in the Izvestia article.
Support for the new generation of wizards
According to the Daily Mail, Radcliffe appealed to fans of the franchise not to put pressure on children who will star in the upcoming HBO series. He noted that he did not want to be a "phantom" in the lives of new actors, and expressed confidence in the success of the project.
"When these children were approved for the role, there was a real stir on the Internet, all over the world, people said, "We have to take care of these children." If you really think that, if everyone is telling the truth, then one of the things you can do for me is to stop constantly asking about me, Emma [Watson] and Rupert [Grint]," the actor said in an interview for Screen Rant.
The role of Harry Potter in the new adaptation went to 11-year-old Dominic McLaughlin, Hermione Granger will be played by Arabella Stanton, and Ron Weasley will be played by Alastair Stoat.
Radcliffe also shared his personal experience of growing up on the set, stressing that he is now more kind to this job. In his opinion, early fame can be perceived more easily if it is intertwined with everyday life from the very beginning.
The actor advised his young colleagues to rely more on the crew, noting that it was the technicians who became his closest friends during the filming of the original films.
Radcliffe himself also admitted that he is looking forward to the new project. According to him, it will be something new and completely different compared to the early franchise. He also expressed confidence that 11-year-old Dominic would be better than him.
The connection of generations of young wizards
Last December, Radcliffe sent a letter to Dominic McLaughlin when he learned of his approval for the role of "the boy who survived."
"I just wanted to text him to say, 'I hope you have a great time, even better than me—I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time,'" the actor shared on Good Morning America.
In response, the young actor sent a thank-you note. McLaughlin said he received the letter during the trip and was extremely impressed by the gesture.
"It was crazy. My father knocked on my door on the train and just gave me this letter. I read it, and then I got to the end, and it said, "Dan R." I was going crazy, but I had to stay calm. I was on the train," he said.
A similar gesture was made by the performer of the role of Ron in the first franchise, Rupert Grint, who wrote a letter to his successor, Alastair Stoat. The actor noted that he was passing on a kind of baton and wished the new generation to enjoy the process as much as he himself had.
What is known about the new Harry Potter film adaptation
The premiere of the multi-part adaptation of J. K. Rowling's books is scheduled for 2027 on the HBO and HBO Max platforms. The creators of the series intend to make the project as close as possible to the original source.
The cast also includes Rory Wilmot (Neville Longbottom), Amos Kitson (Dudley Dursley), Bel Pauli and Daniel Rigby (Mr. and Mrs. Dursley), Louise Briley (Madame Rolanda Hooch) and Anton.Lesser (Harry Ollivander), Janet McTeer (Professor McGonagall), Locks Pratt (Draco Malfoy).
Filming of the series resumed in November 2025. The film crew was spotted on the estate in Hertfordshire, where one of the parts of the film "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (2005) was also shot. Radcliffe expressed the hope that the audience would allow the new story to become an independent work, without burdening the young actors with constant comparisons with films of previous years.
