- The Russian Foreign Ministry announced Russia's commitment to partnership with post-Soviet countries
Russia aims at the closest economic rapprochement with the states of the former Soviet Union on the principles of sovereign equality and non-interference. This was stated on February 19 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin at the presentation of the report "Russia and Neighbors: Mutual Responsibility and Joint Development" by the Valdai International Discussion Club.
"We are developing the entire range of economic ties with these countries, which are vital for our country. Just look at such an important project as the North—South international transport corridor, which we are developing together with our partners," said Galuzin.
The diplomat also stressed that Russia acts as a guarantor of energy security for neighboring countries. He said that substantive negotiations are currently underway and practical implementation of projects for the construction of nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is beginning. In addition, Galuzin noted the joint work on the development of transport and logistics routes.
Galuzin drew attention to the importance of Russian energy supplies, including gas, oil and petroleum products.
"Whatever sphere you take, our vital interests, the interests of the Russian state require, of course, partnership and allied relations with these countries," added Galuzin.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a conversation with Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on October 10, called Russia and Kazakhstan the initiators of integration processes in the post-Soviet space. He also stressed the "special relationship" between the two countries. According to Putin, Russia values relations with Kazakhstan.
