Decreased libido is reflected not only in intimate life, but also in general motivation, energy level and emotional state. Vera Seryozhina, an expert doctor at the LabQuest medical company, told Izvestia on February 21 about the factors affecting attraction.

"A full—fledged libido is energy, interest in life and the ability to have fun. When it decreases, a person loses not only interest in intimacy, but also motivation in general. It is often based on a violation of the biochemical balance," the specialist explained.

Seryozhina noted that one of the key factors in reducing libido is chronic stress and lack of sleep. With regular lack of sleep, cortisol levels rise, melatonin production decreases, and testosterone synthesis is suppressed in men. This directly affects sexual desire and overall body tone.

The state of the dopamine system is of particular importance. According to the expert, the constant consumption of short digital content overloads the pleasure mechanisms. The receptors become less sensitive, the need for stronger stimuli is formed, and interest in real relationships decreases. Unrealistic standards of appearance and lifestyle broadcast on social media create additional pressure, which increases anxiety and hormonal imbalance.

Sex hormones such as testosterone, estrogens and progesterone, which are present in both sexes, also play an essential role. Testosterone affects not only attraction, but also endurance, muscle tone and confidence. Its decrease can lead to a drop in libido, fertility problems and erectile dysfunction. The hormonal background is affected by overweight, strict diets, vitamin D deficiency and micronutrients.

The expert stressed that a decrease in libido is rarely associated with one reason. More often it is a combination of behavioral, psychological and hormonal factors. First of all, it is recommended to normalize sleep, limit screen time, add regular physical activity and balance nutrition. If symptoms persist, you should consult an endocrinologist to assess your hormonal profile, vitamin levels, and thyroid condition, as well as undergo ultrasound examinations.

According to Seryozhina, libido is an indicator of the general condition of the body and can signal hidden deficiencies or diseases that require diagnosis and correction.

Head of the Sleep Study. On February 4, Professor Eduard Yakupov said that chronic insomnia causes weight gain, anxiety, decreased libido and other consequences due to hormonal imbalance. All key hormones — cortisol, melatonin, insulin, testosterone, adrenaline — are part of a single neuroendocrine network, where failure of one link triggers a chain reaction. If the brain detects anxiety or lack of oxygen during sleep, it triggers an alarm. Cortisol rises sharply — exactly when it should be minimal. This becomes the trigger for the hormonal "domino effect."
