- Rostechnadzor has issued a license for the operation of power unit No. 2 for the NPP
The Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision has granted Zaporizhia NPP a license to operate power unit No. 2 for a period of 10 years. This was announced on February 18 on the official website of Rostechnadzor.
The document was presented by Alexander Trembitsky, Head of Rostechnadzor, to Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom, and Ramil Galiev, CEO of the ZAES Operating Organization.
According to Evgenia Yashina, Director of Communications at ZAES, the obtained license creates legal conditions for possible changes in the operating mode of the power unit in the future, including for switching to generation mode.
"This will require an appropriate decision and unconditional fulfillment of all the requirements of the license terms, including ensuring security guarantees," she explained to TASS.
Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev, in turn, said that the documents for obtaining a license for power unit No. 6 have already been submitted to Rostechnadzor.
"We are looking forward to launch operations. As soon as the military-political situation allows, we will proceed directly to this work," he said, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin is monitoring the station's condition and readiness for launch.
Likhachev also recalled that the Zaporizhia NPP can play an important role in the energy supply of Russian regions and become the subject of international commercial activity.
"Both American and European consumers are interested in this electricity," said the head of Rosatom.
On December 23, Rostechnadzor granted the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) a license to operate power unit No. 1 for a period of 10 years. It was reported that the overhaul of the NPP power units was planned for 2026. The power plant plans to obtain licenses for the operation of units No. 2-6 in 2026-2027.
