Islam Makhachev was awarded the title of SAMBO Ambassador in the world

The first dual UFC champion from Russia, SAMBO wrestler Islam Makhachev was awarded the honorary title of "SAMBO Ambassador in the World." The award ceremony took place on February 18 at the International Sambo Center in Luzhniki, during a meeting with the President of the International Sambo Federation (FIAS). By Vasily Shestakov.

"We highly appreciate [Makhachev's] contribution to the popularization of our sport and are proud to award the honorary title of SAMBO Ambassador to the World. I am sure that the activity of Islam in a new capacity will help attract millions of people to the orbit of the national sport in all corners of the globe," said Shestakov.

The FIAS President presented Makhachev with a sambo jacket with his name and the organization's logo. The new SAMBO Ambassador in the world left an autograph on another jacket — it will be on display at the FIAS Museum.

In addition, Makhachev was invited to the 50th anniversary World Sambo Championships in Samarkand as an honorary guest.
