The State Duma proposed to expand the right of large families to free medicines
The head of the State Duma Committee on the Development of Civil Society, Public and Religious associations, Yana Lantratova, proposed to establish a norm according to which children under six from large families will be able to receive medicines for free as prescribed by a doctor, regardless of their inclusion in the list of vital and essential medicines (VED). This appeal to the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation Anton Kotyakov became known on February 19.
"It is proposed to abandon the restrictive principle of the list of VED in relation to children under six years of age from large families and establish a standard for the provision of free medicines as prescribed by the attending physician, regardless of their inclusion in the list," the letter with the proposal, which was reviewed by RIA Novosti.
According to Lantratova, the list of VED does not fully reflect the current clinical needs of Russian residents, as it does not include a huge list of innovative medicines. Lifting the restriction will allow parents with many children to have access to modern and clinically sound treatment methods, which will reduce the risks of delaying or refusing therapy for economic reasons.
On February 11, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that the Russian government was preparing amendments that would allow large families to receive social benefits even if they slightly exceed the established income criterion. Later, on February 17, the State Duma adopted the law. According to estimates, thanks to the new mechanism, more than 231 thousand additional children will be able to receive a single benefit.
