- Zakharova compared Macron's words about freedom of speech with Pugacheva's statement about marriage.
On February 18, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova compared French President Emmanuel Macron's statement on freedom of speech on the Internet with the words of singer Alla Pugacheva about her marriage to singer Philip Kirkorov.
On the same day, Macron called freedom of speech on the Internet "complete bullshit" in the absence of transparency of social media algorithms. In his opinion, modern algorithms secretly direct users from one destructive material to another.
"Many people guessed about this secret of Emmanuel, which took the third place in my personal rating of revelations... Pugacheva takes the second place with a story that her marriage to Kirkorov was not real," Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.
According to the diplomat, the first place in her rating of revelations is occupied by former French President Francois Hollande and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who admitted in 2022 that they were not going to comply with the Minsk agreements. She also expressed the hope that the revelations of the French leader would not end there.
The Times newspaper reported on February 16 that the UK authorities may impose a ban on the use of social networks for teenagers under the age of 16 as early as 2026. In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers intends to oblige Internet platforms to set limits on the time that minors spend in services with endless scrolling of content.
