Sales of diesel passenger cars have fallen in Russia
By the end of 2025, sales of passenger cars with diesel engines in Russia fell by 24% compared to the previous year and amounted to 15.3 thousand units. This was reported on February 18 by the analytical agency Autostat. The share of such machines in the market decreased from 1.3% to 1.2% over the year.
Haval took the first place in sales of diesel cars, which sold 2,641 cars (an increase of 3.2 times). The second was the Great Wall (2,594 units; a decrease of 54%).
Toyota (1,617 units) became the third in the brand ranking, with sales of diesel passenger cars falling by 38%. Next are Foton (1,310 units; +75%) and Sollers (1,093 units; -33%).
In the model rating, the Great Wall Poer pickup truck (1938 units) turned out to be the bestseller among diesel cars, the Haval H5 SUV (1655 units), the Foton Tunland pickup truck (1294 units), the Haval H9 SUV (986 units) and the Sollers ST6 pickup truck (983 units) completed the top five.
Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant is conducting winter tests of a domestic diesel engine, which will appear on the UAZ Patriot, Pickup and Profi models. As specified on February 11, we are talking about a two-liter power unit with a capacity of 136 horsepower (hp), which is being produced in Yelabuga.
Prior to that, on February 28, it became known that the average price of a diesel car in the Russian secondary market for the year decreased by 8.1% and amounted to 2.13 million rubles. Last year, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Volkswagen and Hyundai cars became the most popular used cars with diesel engines among Russians.
