There have been 226 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.

Over the past day, 226 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 22 people were killed and 276 injured. 18 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on February 18 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

In the Republic of Tyva, on 22 km of the Kyzyl—Erzin regional highway — border with the Republic of Mongolia, a 25-year-old passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane, exceeding the set speed limit, where he collided with another passenger car driven by a 47-year-old motorist. The culprit of the car accident, his two passengers, as well as the driver and passenger of the second car died in the accident. Another passenger of the first car was hospitalized with injuries.

11 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 15 road users, including one child, needed medical help. Six bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

As a result of 80 accidents, 42 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 38 outside their area of operation, four pedestrians were killed, and 77 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 15 underage pedestrians, 11 of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas.

Over the past day, 26 accidents involving minors have been registered on Russian roads, in which 27 young road users, including 12 passengers, were injured. One child, a passenger in a passenger car, was killed.

So, in the Penza region, in the early morning, on 713 km of the federal highway M-5 Ural, a 52-year-old car driver drove into the oncoming lane, exceeding the set speed limit, where he collided with a passenger car driven by a 40-year-old driver. A 15-year-old passenger of the second passenger car, who was wearing a seat belt in her back seat, died as a result of the accident.

The father of the deceased teenage girl, who was driving a car, ended up in the hospital with injuries. The culprit of the collision, who has been brought to administrative responsibility 39 times over the past year for various traffic violations, as well as another passenger in the second vehicle, were sent for outpatient treatment after medical care.

"The State Traffic Inspectorate recommends drivers not to overestimate their strength, abandon risky driving, exceed the established speed limit, refrain from sudden rash maneuvers and changes of lanes, overtaking and driving into oncoming traffic — even in the permitted places. Be careful and careful. Remember that not only your life and health depend on your skills, driving experience, well—being, law-abiding driving behavior and good technical condition of the vehicle, but also the lives and health of other road users, including passengers," said the head of the Department of road safety promotion and prevention of children's road traffic Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich was injured by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation has developed a draft government decree, which proposes to conduct preliminary testing of the driver for drug intoxication by saliva.
