Rosatom terminated the contract for the Paks-2 Hungarian nuclear power plant (NPP) project with the German conglomerate Siemens at the end of 2025 due to the failure of this actor to fulfill its obligations under the agreement. This was announced on February 18 in the press service of the organization.

"The contract with [Siemens] was terminated at the end of last year (2025. — Ed.) due to the inability to fulfill its contractual obligations," RIA Novosti quoted Rosatom representatives as saying.

It is emphasized that the German concern is not a supplier of the Paks-2 project. The participation of Siemens was limited only to specific elements of the automated process control system (ACS), the volume of which was less than 4%, so the termination of the agreement is not regarded as "critical".

The Russian side is considering new opportunities for equipment replacement and is exploring the possibility of concluding new deals with both domestic and European manufacturers. The press service noted that their organization works exclusively with reliable suppliers, and also added that the construction of Paks-2 will be carried out in accordance with the schedule.

The construction of the Paks-2 NPP in Hungary began on February 5. Then the first concrete was poured into the foundation of the future facility. The ceremony was attended by Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, and Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom State Corporation.

Szijjarto said on February 9 that the construction of the plant would open the way for Hungarian companies to enter the global nuclear market. He specified that this construction is "an exemplary example of East–West cooperation." Then he clarified that the Russian general contractor was working together with German and French subcontractors. In December, he also stated that there would be no problems with the implementation of the Paks-2 NPP project.
