Every housewife buys "that very thing" for the kitchen at least once: stylish and at a good discount. But then the purchase turns out to be unnecessary and has been in the closet for years, while other dishes and appliances become indispensable and can be used several times a day. Olga Pastushenko, Röndell's leading brand manager, along with Veronika Akhmetova, a psychologist and member of the Association for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, told Izvestia on February 19 how to consciously approach the choice of household items and what turns out to be more important than trends and favorable prices.

Trends in kitchen appliances and tableware change faster than household habits are formed, so a trending color or shape, despite its attractive appearance, may not pass the test of time. According to the psychologist, when a purchase is made under the influence of stocks or fashion trends, basic psychological mechanisms are triggered: the effect of urgency and the fear of missing out. Sales create a sense of increased product value and interfere with rational analysis.

Trends are perceived as confirmation of the correctness of the choice, which allows you to avoid doubts and save time and effort. As a result, purchases are often made under the influence of emotions and expectations, rather than a conscious decision. A person imagines an ideal scenario for using technology, but in everyday life it rarely works, and the object turns out to be superfluous.

"People tend to overestimate the duration of the joy of a new thing. The novelty effect quickly fades, and everyday inconveniences come to the fore.: difficult care, fragility, the need for manual washing or storage features. This happens especially often when the purchase symbolizes a desired lifestyle — for example, a juicer is purchased as a promise to "start taking care of yourself." If it doesn't fit into everyday scenarios, it becomes a source of frustration and can even cause feelings of guilt," Akhmetova said.

Röndell's leading brand manager emphasized that the real value of kitchen appliances or tableware is not in fashion or discounts, but in how they fit into everyday life. High-quality items help save time, effort and nerves, make daily tasks more comfortable and remain useful for many years, not just one season.

When choosing household items, the expert advises to take into account the functionality — to understand in advance which options are really needed so that the purchase does not turn out to be superfluous. Durability is equally important: tableware and appliances must withstand active use, and the quality of materials and ease of care are more important than spectacular design.

Pastushenko also recommended paying attention to versatility and conformity to lifestyle. The frequency of cooking, the size of the kitchen, the composition of the family and the availability of a dishwasher are more important than trends. Items that are used on a daily basis are especially valuable: their benefits manifest themselves in a sense of convenience and stability.

"Price and trends are often just marketing factors, and profit does not guarantee benefit, especially in matters of choosing dishes. It's important to think not about what's beautiful or popular today, but about what's really useful in your home. Culinary preferences and everyday habits are the first things to focus on when choosing dishes," explained the leading brand manager of Röndell.

When a purchase decision is made consciously, with a focus on personal values and specific goals, the gap between expectations and reality is reduced. A person understands why they are making a purchase, and even if the product is imperfect, they perceive the defect more calmly, since the decision was made consciously, taking into account possible risks.

HYUNDAI brand experts reported on February 14 that the demand for multifunctional household appliances in Russia continues to grow — more than half of buyers (55%) consider universal models to be a great way to save space in an apartment. When buying household appliances for small real estate, Russians primarily focus on practicality. For 35% of respondents, the key factor was the ratio of price and functionality, while another 25% pay attention to reliability and service life.
