- Experts gave advice on organizing low-cost trips four times a year in the Russian Federation
For a profitable trip around Russia, you should choose northern destinations in winter, the cities of the Golden Ring in spring, the Baltic Sea and food tours in the south of the country in summer, and cultural routes in autumn. Experts from the S-club told Izvestia about this on February 20.
In winter, travelers are advised to pay attention to the northern regions. A train trip to Murmansk, Arkhangelsk region or Karelia will allow you to see the northern Lights and snow-covered forests without buying expensive tours.
"Try the format of independent travel: the Moscow – Murmansk train is atmospheric in itself and pleasant to the wallet. And there, not far from the city, for a modest fee, you can rent a house and, covered with a blanket, watch the majestic northern lights, and if you're lucky, you can meet reindeer! Karelia invites you to the kingdom of snow-covered forests and lakes, promising comfort in eco-hotels. The main thing is to book tickets and accommodation in advance, and the winter fairy tale will not cost you a penny," the experts said.
In spring, experts recommend visiting the cities of the Golden Ring, giving preference to less popular places such as Ples or Suzdal. In summer, the Kaliningrad coast with its dunes and the Curonian Spit can be an alternative to the crowded southern resorts. Also, during the warm season, gastronomic tours in the Rostov region and Krasnodar Territory are relevant. In autumn, tourists are invited to visit St. Petersburg or Ufa, where the Bashkiria National Park is located.
To minimize costs, experts recommend being flexible and tracking airline and railway promotions. Early booking of tickets and accommodation significantly increases the chances of finding great deals. Instead of expensive hotels, it is recommended to choose hostels, apartments in the center or apartments with a kitchen, which allows you to cook on your own and save on food.
Another effective way to reduce costs is to search for little-known cities instead of hyped tourist centers. Experts also recommend going on the road in the company of friends. This allows the participants to share the costs of renting a home, buying groceries and fuel for a car, the experts concluded.
On February 12, Sergey Krivonosov, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Tourism, said that new hotel booking rules would come into force on March 1, 2026, which would provide greater protection for customers. According to him, the changes will make the process more transparent and convenient for citizens.
