European leaders are mistaken, counting on Ukraine's victory in the conflict, and underestimate Russia's capabilities. This was announced on February 16 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. His words are quoted on the official website of the Prime Minister.

The politician criticized the position of a number of EU countries during a meeting of the parliamentary faction of the ruling FIDESZ party in Budapest. He expressed doubt that Russia could exhaust itself before Ukraine, and called such expectations an illusion.

"Who can believe that Russians will run out of steam sooner than Ukraine? This is from the world of dreams and illusions," Orban said.

The prime minister also recalled that similar calculations had already been made in the past, including during the Second World War, but even then attempts to exhaust Russia did not bring the expected result.

"They said: it won't be long. Russia is about to collapse. As a result, the Soviet flag was flying in Berlin," he said.

On February 11, Orban stated that the European Union's plan to partially admit Ukraine to the EU by 2027, bypassing the Hungarian veto, is a threat to Hungary. According to Politico, the EU is discussing a scenario of granting Kiev limited membership with the expectation of a change of power in Budapest. The Hungarian Prime Minister stressed that such initiatives ignore the position of Hungarian voters and can lead to a political conflict within the EU.
