Internist Alexander Novikov warned on Tuesday, February 17, about the danger of improper actions when trying to bring down the temperature with home experiments.

According to the doctor, rubbing with alcohol or vinegar is strictly contraindicated, since alcohol is instantly absorbed through the skin and respiratory tract, causing intoxication, convulsions and even respiratory depression, as well as a sharp vasospasm. Because of this, the internal temperature does not drop, but rather jumps even higher, the expert emphasized.

Novikov warned against wrapping blankets around the patient, as the artificial creation of a "greenhouse" leads to heat stroke, critical dehydration and malfunction of the heart and brain. Such a mistake can be fatal for the elderly and young children, he stressed.

He also noted that uncontrolled intake of antipyretics is a mistake.

"Exceeding the dose of paracetamol occupies one of the first places among the causes of acute liver failure, and combining several drugs "just in case" can result in toxic liver damage or gastrointestinal bleeding," the therapist shared in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

He added that children and adolescents should never take aspirin with a viral infection — this is the risk of Reye's syndrome, a potentially fatal condition with liver and brain damage.

Yesterday, Denis Logunov, a leading Russian scientist, director of the N.F. Gamalei National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said in an interview with the website kp.ru that humanity has entered an era of increased epidemic risk.

According to him, the main reasons for this are the huge population, the global settlement of people and their rapid movement around the planet.

Earlier in the day, the press service of the Office of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) in the capital reported that a slight increase in the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections was recorded in Moscow from February 9 to 15, the Moscow City News agency reports.

Earlier, on February 6, Lyubov Stankevich, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Director of Laboratory medicine and Production at the LabQuest medical company, told Izvestia that acute respiratory viral infections are often perceived as a mild illness accompanied by a runny nose, cough and fever. However, in practice, any respiratory infection, both viral and bacterial, can lead to serious complications.

Acute respiratory viral infections and influenza belong to the group of acute respiratory viral infections affecting the respiratory tract. The main route of transmission is airborne: viruses spread by coughing, sneezing and during normal conversation over a distance of up to several meters. The highest concentration of particles is located within a radius of about half a meter from the patient, clarifies Pravda.Ru .
