The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment proposed to strengthen control over oil-containing waste

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment proposed to develop a system for regulating the processing of oil-containing waste. This was reported to Izvestia on February 17 following a meeting between Deputy head of the Ministry Denis Butsaev and members of the Union of Waste Processors of the Fuel and Energy Complex (SPOTEK).

According to him, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is preparing a regulatory framework designed to encourage actual rather than fictitious waste disposal. With an annual volume of oil-containing waste of 9-10 million tons, the level of their deep processing does not exceed 15-25%. There are also illegal recycling schemes.

"It is necessary to shift the focus from the formal licensing procedure towards effective control over the market. We can talk about the formation of a federal register of responsible processors, the introduction of common technological standards and self—regulatory mechanisms," said Denis Butsaev.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has set a goal to ensure that at least 25% of secondary resources and raw materials from solid waste are involved in economic turnover by 2030, he added.

Today, the challenges are to transform the oil-based waste processing industry into a modern, technologically advanced, transparent and environmentally efficient segment of Russia's circular economy, Butsaev concluded.

Izvestia reported on September 4 that Russian scientists will be able to start using nuclear technologies for waste recycling. It was noted that this idea was proposed by scientists from the National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI" (NRU MEPhI) in cooperation with specialists from the Scientific and Technical Council of the Russian Environmental Operator (REO NTS).
