Russia should use the current geopolitical situation to build long-term and sustainable economic relations with China. This was announced on February 17 by Alexey Mordashov, Chairman of the Board of Directors and the main shareholder of Severstal, during the forum of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

According to him, in the context of the increasing fragmentation of the global economy and the formation of new economic blocs, cooperation between Russia and China is becoming mutually beneficial. Mordashov noted that the partnership is conditioned by the scale of the economies, their complementarity and the desire of the parties to reduce geopolitical risks.

"And, I repeat, we need to take this chance to create the right system of long—term, sustainable, balanced economic relations with China," TASS quoted Mordashov as saying.

He stressed that the current situation opens up opportunities for forming a balanced model of long-term cooperation, but cooperation requires a balanced approach. According to the businessman, working with Chinese partners is associated not only with growth prospects, but also with certain risks, so Russian companies need to adapt to the specifics of doing business with China.

Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov said on February 10 that Western sanctions had failed to stop the development of mutually beneficial trade between Russia and China. According to him, thanks to coordination at the government and business levels, Russia and China have managed to build effective channels of interaction, establish new production and logistics chains and sustainable mechanisms for bilateral settlements.

On February 5, the head of the Russia–Brazil Business Council, Andrey Guryev, announced that the countries plan to set a new record for bilateral trade in 2026. According to him, the countries are actively developing cooperation in key sectors of the economy, including the agro-industrial complex, energy, IT technologies and industrial production.
