Alexey Smirnov, the former governor of the Kursk region, who is accused of accepting bribes, was registered as suicidal and self-harming. This was announced on February 17 by the prosecutor during a court hearing in the Leninsky District court.

"On October 2, 2025, he was registered as suicidal and self-harming. The conclusion <...> from the pre—trial detention center is that Smirnov is characterized negatively," RIA Novosti quoted the prosecutor as saying.
