For the first time in the history of the Winter Olympic Games, a mother and son took part in the competition. This was reported on February 16 by the newspaper Sport-Express.

46-year-old alpine skier Sarah Schleper, representing Mexico, and her 18-year-old son Lasse Gahiola have written their names into history. As part of the Olympics, Schlepper competed in the giant slalom, and also failed to qualify in the supergiant. Gahiola tried his hand at slalom and giant slalom, making his debut at the main start of the quadrennial.

For Sarah, the current Games were the seventh in her career. Thus, she set an absolute record among alpine skiers in terms of the number of Olympic Games. In addition, the athlete, who will turn 47 on February 19, has been officially recognized as the oldest participant in Olympic Alpine skiing competitions in history.

On the same day, Swiss alpine skier Loic Meillard won the gold medal in slalom at the 2026 Olympic Games on February 16. After two attempts, he showed a result of 1 minute 53.61 seconds. For the 29-year-old athlete, this was the first Olympic gold in his career.
