On February 16, Kaplan Panes, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Budget and Taxes, proposed criminalizing mileage distortion and falsifying car history.

"Today, there is no direct rule prohibiting the twisting of mileage in Russian legislation. However, this does not mean that such actions go unpunished," Panes said in an interview "Газете.Ru ".

According to him, there are companies on the Internet that, under the guise of technical services, offer "cleaning" electronic databases about cars. They delete information about accidents, insurance payments, taxi status and emergency auctions, which directly affects traffic safety.

The MP believes that such actions require tougher penalties. He proposed to impose fines from 100 to 300 thousand rubles, and criminal liability for repeated violations. It is also necessary to give regulatory authorities the right to block websites offering such services.

Panes noted the importance of introducing a mileage recording system in the electronic passport of the vehicle at each inspection or insurance event. This will allow you to instantly identify the facts of the twist.

In September last year, it was reported that more than half (57%) Russian car owners have encountered technical problems after buying a used car. Among them are undeclared accidents during the sale, safety problems, non—compliance with technical specifications and twisted mileage.
