The turnover of trade on digital platforms in the country has increased almost sixfold in recent years. This was announced on February 16 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, opening the strategic session "Regulating the Platform Economy."

"Russian e-commerce is gaining more and more popularity. In recent years, its turnover has grown almost sixfold," he noted.

Mishustin noted the active development of digital platforms that directly connect sellers and buyers. This allows entrepreneurs to reduce costs and quickly explore new markets, optimize logistics, and offer a wide range of products that can be purchased from the comfort of their homes.

The main part of these sales, according to the prime minister, accounts for marketplaces, food delivery services and taxis. He stressed that thanks to such platforms, more than a million sellers are expanding their business using the modern infrastructure of online platforms and pick-up points. This allows residents of not only large cities, but also remote villages to receive a variety of products.

Mishustin also drew attention to the importance of protecting the interests of both buyers and suppliers in a rapidly growing market. To do this, he said, the government is improving the regulatory framework. The Prime minister recalled that, on behalf of the president, a federal law was prepared and adopted, which will enter into force in October this year. This law is aimed at increasing the transparency of digital platforms and obliges them to interact with government information systems to verify information on labeling, certificates and declarations of conformity, which will strengthen control over product quality and safety.

The requirements for contracts with online platforms aimed at protecting the rights of small companies and self-employed citizens were also approved. According to Mishustin, these measures will ensure transparency of interaction with marketplaces and eliminate cases when the platform offers discounts on its products without the consent of the supplier. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the new mechanisms will help accelerate the development of digital platforms, strengthen competition and enable both businesses and individual entrepreneurs to expand their trade across the country.

The results of the survey conducted by the Information Center Position agency, which was reviewed by Izvestia on January 29, show that marketplace sellers feel competition and are tired of commissions. According to the data obtained, 85% of sellers consider brand development to be the key to survival on marketplaces. It was noted that sellers see the future of marketplace ecosystems precisely through the prism of security and expanding influence, and among other expectations of entrepreneurs are the introduction of new verification rules, confirmation of the quality of goods (22%) and the creation of more transparent conditions for cooperation in terms of payments and refunds (21%).
