Falkov called for the deployment of non-state education for the economy
It is necessary to expand the non-governmental education sector according to the needs of the Russian economy. This was announced on February 16 by Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, at the III Forum of Non-Governmental Education.
"We need to slowly, carefully, and you know how, without turning this into a campaign, expand the non-government education sector to meet the needs of our economy. <...> Decisions on the availability of programs in the portfolio of each university should be made not only taking into account the requests of applicants, but also taking into account the labor market," Falkov said.
He cited the example of socio-economic training, which, according to him, is overestimated in terms of the number of programs, and called for abandoning some of them in exchange for new ones. He also noted that the lists of available destinations should be discussed with the Russian Ministry of Labor.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 25 that Russia needs to expand educational opportunities on a budgetary basis. At the same time, the head of state clarified that it is not necessary to exclude paid education, as this will lead to a narrowing of opportunities for specialized education.
On December 22, Falkov announced that the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education plans to reduce about 45,000 paid places at universities, which will amount to about 13% of their total number. The cuts will affect 40 areas of study, including such popular ones as economics, management, public and municipal administration, and law.
