When funds are transferred from unidentified persons to a bank account, it is extremely important to exercise caution and avoid actions that may lead to irreversible negative consequences. This was announced on February 16 by lawyer for corporate and family disputes, mediator Makka Saligova.

It is clarified that most often the situation develops according to a similar scenario: after funds are credited, a call or message is received asking for a refund, but the money is offered to be transferred not to the original account, but to another card. The expert noted that the desire to immediately return the amount according to the specified details may lead to participation in a fraudulent scheme.

This is a classic technique of the so-called money laundering scheme. Criminals, having gained access to other people's funds, do not withdraw them directly to their accounts, but launch a chain of random transfers, among which may be your card. Each such interim transfer blurs the trail, creating the appearance of a legitimate operation," Saligova shared in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

She added that another option is possible: the attackers transfer funds from the stolen accounts, and then ask them to transfer them to new banking details. When the real owner discovers the debit and contacts the bank or law enforcement agencies, the chain of transactions can lead to a bona fide recipient of the interim transfer.

The lawyer stressed that a refund to a third-party account is considered a voluntary payment. From a legal point of view, this is no longer the cancellation of an erroneous operation, but an independent decision by a citizen, after which the sender has the right to declare unjustified enrichment and demand the money back.

When receiving an unfamiliar transfer, the specialist recommended that you first check the actual transfer amount in the bank application. You should not use the funds received or transfer them to your own accounts. It is also not recommended to contact the sender directly — you must contact your bank through the support service, describing the situation and following the instructions received. In addition, it is important to keep supporting documents and correspondence.

On February 15, the Directorate for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the GUMVD of the Russian Federation in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region reported that fraudsters began using a new method of deception, luring victims of codes to access their data. The scammers pose as a delivery service and claim to have sent a birthday present. They ask the recipient to confirm receipt of the parcel by requesting a "reconciliation code." However, it is actually a one-time SMS password that is used to log into online banking, Gosuslugi, or other personal accounts.
