Russia's gross domestic product (GDP) surpassed Italy's in nominal terms in 2026. This became known on February 16 from calculations conducted by RIA Novosti.
It is specified that the Russian figures reached $2.556 trillion, and the Italian figures reached $2.550 trillion. Thus, the Russian economy surpassed the Italian economy.
On February 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that increasing labor productivity is a priority for Russia in the context of a shortage of personnel in a number of sectors of the economy. He stressed that the Russian economy needs to be made more efficient through the creation of modern well-paying jobs, the active introduction of automated systems, industrial robots and solutions in the field of artificial intelligence.
