The rock of Sant'Andrea on the coast of Italian Puglia collapsed due to bad weather
The Italian landmark Sant'Andrea Rock, known as the "Lovers' Arch", collapsed due to bad weather and sea erosion. This was reported on February 15 by the local newspaper Corriere Salentino, citing the mayor of the town of Melendugno, Maurizio Cisternino.
"It's a terrible blow to the heart. <...> On Valentine's Day, we woke up to this sad news, which is a blow to the heart for all of us. One of the most famous tourist attractions on our coast and in all of Italy is disappearing," the mayor said.
The material says that the collapse was influenced by strong winds and rains, accelerating the growth of erosion destroying the rock. According to geologists, this event raises concerns from the point of view of environmental protection, as 53% of the coast is under threat of erosion and 839 landslides have already been recorded in the region. Experts noted that it is necessary to stabilize the soil in order to avoid further collapse through monitoring and analysis.
On October 21, 2025, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities denied rumors about the threat of the collapse of Tutankhamun's tomb. It is reported that the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, confirms that the information that is being disseminated in foreign media is absolutely untrue, and the tomb is in good condition.
