- Kallas urged not to waste time talking about creating a unified army of the European Union
On February 15, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kalas, urged not to waste time talking about creating a unified army of the European Union (EU).
"Creating a separate army in addition to the one that is already part of NATO <...> I see talks in Germany about conscription and I see problems there, so I don't think it will be easy to create such an army. <...> Let's not waste time talking," she said. during the Munich Security Conference.
The speaker drew attention to the possible difficulties and confusion that may arise in managing a potential joint force that will be integrated into both the EU and NATO. Instead, Callas called on her colleagues to focus on strengthening national forces, as this process will allow the alliance to strengthen its foothold within the North Atlantic Alliance.
On the same day, Callas compared the EU to the Marvel cinematic universe and announced a "general gathering of superheroes" who are shaped not by their existing powers, but by the paths they choose for themselves. Europe's path, she clarified, is clear — its representatives need to protect both their territory and their neighbors, thereby building partnerships around the world.
