Engineer and developer of the Sega Mega Drive Hideki Sato died at the age of 78. This was announced on February 14 by the Kotaku computer games publication.

The engineer started working for the company in 1971, and in 1989 he became the head of the research and development department in order to compete with Nintendo. With the company, Sato went from the SG-1000 to the Dreamcast.
