Russian boxer Harutyunyan has won the WBA Interim World Champion title.

26-year-old Russian boxer Vartan Harutyunyan won the title of interim world champion according to the World Boxing Association (WBA), determined among athletes in the weight category up to 101.7 kg.

The corresponding result was achieved after a 12-round match, which took place on February 14 in Chelyabinsk. During the competition, Harutyunyan defeated 33-year-old compatriot Georgy Yunovidov by technical knockout in the sixth round.

The interim world champion continues his win-win career in the professional ring: he has 12 wins to his credit, eight of which were won by knockout. Before the fight with Yunovidov, who suffered a second defeat, he was ranked eighth in the WBA rankings.

With 11 wins, Harutyunyan's opponent has seven knockouts in his career. He was unable to defend the title he won in May 2025. Then he defeated 40-year-old Evgeny Romanov by technical knockout in the fifth round.

On December 12, 2025, the WBA regular World champion belt was won by Russian boxer Murat Gassiev, who knocked out Bulgarian athlete Kubrat Pulev. Then the athlete also won in the sixth round. The fight itself took place as part of the tournament IBA.PRO 13, which took place in Dubai.
