Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladislav Geraskevich, who was previously suspended from participating in the Olympic Games in Italy, announced on February 13 that Russia was celebrating his disqualification.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) disqualified Geraskevich on February 12 for using a helmet with photos of dead athletes. It was noted that after checking the equipment, the IOC representatives met with Geraskevich and the delegation of the Ukrainian National Olympic Committee (NOC). Then the organizers of the Olympics offered the athlete alternative ways of self-expression, but he refused them.

In an interview with the Ukrainian publication "Public", he pointed to the alleged pressure from the IOC on Ukraine in order to promote the return of Russian representatives to the Olympics.

The head of the IOC, Kirsty Coventry, told reporters on February 13 that the decision to disqualify Geraskevich was fair, as the athlete refused to follow the established rules. According to Coventry, the rules ensure fairness and safety for all participants.
