On February 22, the second report concert of the Youth Internship program "Soul Sings in Italian" will be held in the Music Room of the Moscow Academic Musical Theater named after K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko (MAMT). This was announced on February 13 by the press service of the theater.

According to MAMT, the program covers three centuries of vocal culture: from the works of composers George Frideric Handel and Christoph Willibald von Gluck to chamber compositions by Saverio Mercadante.

The concert is based on the concept of a "revived museum". Trainee directors Igor Zavada and Sergey Molokov will focus on opera classics and forgotten Italian music. In their works, they combine the characters of arias with sculptural and picturesque images of Baroque and classicism, the MAMT explains.

"We were looking for points of intersection between the characters of paintings, animated statues and the heroes of the Baroque and classical arias. This is a time of typified characters, and his vivid types are like ready—made stage masks that can be found in the visual arts," said Zvada.

Alexander Titel, the artistic director of the program, explained that young directors are given the task of finding the "chemistry" between "visible and audible."

"In our workshop at GITIS, we give student directors the following task: to choose a painting for a chamber piece of music or, conversely, to choose a piece of music for a painting, to find the relationship, to feel the "chemistry" between the visible and the audible, and to make a stage miniature based on this. This will also be a task for trainee directors as part of this concert," he said.

The concert will continue the cycle of themed evenings of the Youth Program, in which interns are trained in stage movement, acting and working with foreign languages. The 107th season also includes programs dedicated to French and German music.

At the end of October last year, the MAMT hosted rehearsals of the opera "The Maid of Orleans" by composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The premiere took place on November 28, 29 and 30. Alexander Titel, the chief director and artistic director of the MAMT Opera company, continued his work aimed at expanding the Russian repertoire of the theater.

At the center of the opera is the tragic and heroic image of Joanna, embodying the power of spirit and self—sacrifice. It combines at the same time a lyrical beginning and boundless courage, loyalty to one's duty, a harsh historical context — with mystical ecstasy and thirst for life. The production was also the result of the development of psychological drama in Tchaikovsky's work.
