The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry pointed to the lack of discussion in Europe about nuclear deterrence

There is a lack of discussion about nuclear deterrence in the European defense community. The EU countries have no idea how to contain Russia in the current conditions. This was announced to Izvestia on February 13 by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budris.

"There is still a lack of discussion in the European defense community, a proper political discussion about nuclear deterrence. <...> It is in our interests to break this taboo, because I cannot imagine how Russia can be deterred by conventional means in the current conditions," he said.

Budris stressed that European countries should discuss nuclear deterrence "from morning to evening" in order to cope with the challenges.
