A strong solar flare lasting 48 minutes was recorded by scientists. This was announced on February 13 at the Institute of Applied Geophysics of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "IPG".

"On February 13, at 11:58 Moscow time, an M1.1 flash lasting 48 minutes was registered in the X—ray range in the group of spots 4373 (N08W16)," the scientists told the TASS news agency.

On the same day, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS) reported the appearance of a huge "smiley face" in the Sun. Scientists have noted that at the moment the Sun is facing the Earth in this form, while the planets closest to our planet — Mercury, Venus and Mars — are located on the opposite side of the star.

On the same day, scientists reported a decrease in solar flare activity. It was noted that the last time zero solar activity was recorded was in April 2024.
