Arctic Development Council to be established in Murmansk Region
A council for scientific and technological development in the Arctic will be established in the Kola Arctic. It will become a key platform for interaction between business, government and science.
It is planned to form a unified agenda by 2030, ensure the introduction of scientific practices in industry and establish support for young professionals.
This was stated by Governor Andrey Chibis during the events at the Kola Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences dedicated to the Day of Russian Science. They took place in Apatity. The head of the region noted that he had discussed with the federal government the return of the status of a science city to Apatites. It will require attracting investments. In addition, the city plans to modernize the university and create a new campus, writes the Bi-Port news agency.
The agency explains that the priority of the new council's work will be to strengthen cooperation between scientific and industrial centers. Specialists will pay special attention to the development of technologies for deep processing of mineral raw materials, the creation of a scientific infrastructure in Svalbard, bioresource and marine research, and the development of environmental technologies for mining.
Earlier it was reported that 122 schools are planned to be retrofitted in the Murmansk region. The equipment is necessary for technology lessons and the basics of homeland security and defense. The authorities expect that all educational institutions will be equipped with it by 2027. The equipment will be purchased as part of the national project "Youth and Children".
