LeBron James broke the 2003 NBA record
On February 13, Los Angeles Lakers basketball forward LeBron James became the oldest player in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA) to complete a triple-double.
In the winning regular season home game against Dallas (124:104), 41-year-old James scored 28 points, made 12 assists and 10 rebounds. This allowed him to score a triple-double — to score at least 10 points in three statistical indicators of the player.
The previous record for the oldest triple-double was held by Karl Malone, who played for the Utah Jazz and the Lakers. In 2003, as a member of the Los Angeles club, he achieved the same result at the age of 40 years and 127 days.
James is in his 23rd NBA season, which is a league record. He is a four-time NBA champion, four times recognized as the most valuable player (MVP) of the regular season and the final series of the playoffs. As a member of the U.S. national team, he won the Olympic Games three times and won the bronze medal once.
Egor Demin, a 19-year-old Russian defender of the Brooklyn Nets basketball club, set an NBA record among rookies on January 30 in a match against the Utah Jazz with a three-point shot. This allowed him to extend his streak to 34 games with at least one successful three-point shot, which became a new record among the league's debutants. Previously, this record was set by Landry Shameth in the 2018/2019 season, and before that it belonged to Rudy Fernandez in the 2008/2009 season.
