- The media reported on the possible termination of the Hogwarts Express due to bankruptcy
The Scottish Jacobite Express, known as the Hogwarts Express from the Harry Potter films, has been threatened with closure due to financial problems and security disputes. This was reported on February 12 by The Scottish Sun newspaper.
West Coast Railways (WCR), which operates the trains, announced that it has not yet approved a timetable for this year. Previously, the train carried about 70,000 passengers annually, enjoying the scenic views and atmosphere reminiscent of the Hogwarts Express from cult films.
The problems began after WCR lost a door safety lawsuit in December 2023. The court demanded the installation of central locks on the doors of the wagons, which, according to the company, will cost £ 7 million. This amount significantly exceeds the company's annual profit and can lead to economic losses for the business.
It is specified that the Jacobite Express brings about £19.3 million a year to the Scottish economy, which includes revenue from ticket sales for 101,429 passenger services. If the train is closed, not only companies will be affected, but also local cafes, restaurants and tourism businesses in Fort William and Mallaig.
The South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on January 27 that elephant rides had begun to close in Bali. It was clarified that the tours were stopped by five major facilities, including the Bali Zoo, Tasta Tabanan Wildlife Park and Mason Elephant Park Reserve in Gianyara.
