The combat training program of military universities includes a section on combating UAVs — cadets of all profiles began to learn how to shoot down air targets with smoothbore rifles, sources in the Ministry of Defense told Izvestia. The program has elements such as shooting and boarding a car, buggy and motorcycle. As a result, officers of all branches of the armed forces will receive anti-drone skills that they can transfer to their subordinates, experts say.

How cadets are trained to fight drones

The combat training program of military universities includes a section on combating UAVs, sources in the Ministry of Defense told Izvestia. For conducting classes in schools, special stands are equipped for shooting at targets simulating drones. In addition, students hone their skills in firing from a car, buggy or motorcycle, the interlocutors of the publication explained.

The training course is divided into two stages. At the first stage, cadets gain basic shooting skills at high-speed, low-flying targets and master single-player actions when encountering an enemy drone. At the second stage, the fight against drones is practiced as part of a group, where cadets learn how to properly disperse when danger arises and cover each other.

The program is based on the experience of a special military operation. Combat participants became instructors. Smoothbore weapons of domestic production are used in the classroom.

In combat, an officer must be a generalist, military expert Viktor Litovkin told Izvestia.

"In particular, future commanders of motorized rifle platoons have always been trained at a very good level in a lot of other disciplines — they have always received and are receiving mandatory, for example, engineering and technical training," the expert recalled.

At the same time, the fight against drones has come to the fore today. Therefore, all officers should be able to counteract this new type of weapon, and use all types of weapons — both smoothbore and rifled.

— Do not forget that the fight against drones is not only about shooting, but also about detecting them in a timely manner. A future officer should be able to use UAV attack warning devices. But the most important thing is that the officer will have to train his soldiers, transfer previously acquired knowledge and skills. Other people's training depends on his training, and it must be good. Moreover, our army is fighting," Viktor Litovkin concluded.

Former Deputy Commander—in-Chief of the Air Force, Aytech Bizhev, is convinced that today a soldier of any specialty should be able to fight drones - sappers, drivers of combat vehicles and representatives of other branches of the armed forces face this threat.

How are new methods of combating drones being introduced?

The Russian armed forces and the military-industrial complex are actively implementing specialized solutions to neutralize unmanned threats, based on the experience of a special military operation. In particular, as Izvestia reported, to defeat low-flying targets, Techkrim CJSC presented 12-caliber Intercept cartridges, which have already been tested in the combat zone.

The peculiarity of the product lies in its striking element: six lead segments connected by a high-strength Kevlar thread, when fired, form a kind of network with a diameter of up to one meter.

Such a cloud opens at a distance of 15-20 meters from the shooter, which makes it possible to effectively disable the drone due to the mechanical destruction of its structure. The use of a standard hunting caliber makes these ammunition available for widespread military use.

In parallel with the technical upgrade, large-scale retraining of personnel of various branches of the armed forces is underway. The training program for railway troops now includes a mandatory section on combating UAVs, where classes are conducted by instructors with real front-line experience.

The fighters hone their skills in destroying aerial targets using both standard submachine guns and machine guns, as well as twin ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns. In addition, electronic warfare is being used.

Specialized units are being created to ensure the security of strategic facilities such as warehouses and arsenals. Their tasks include not only the organization of round-the—clock surveillance posts, but also full logistical equipment, from the selection of special uniforms to the supply of narrow-profile anti-drone weapons.

The Navy is also adapting to new challenges by strengthening base defenses against air and water attacks. For example, in Kamchatka, the points of deployment of ships protecting the water area are already equipped with specialized drone protection posts and visual control points.

The perimeters of the facilities are reinforced with firing points with ZU-23-2 installations, which have proven their effectiveness against mobile drones. Similar measures have been taken in the coastal missile brigades, where mobile cover groups have been formed. These detachments, armed with MANPADS, anti-drone "guns" and pump-action rifles, ensure the safety of missile systems both at points of permanent deployment and on the march.
