At the moment, it is premature to talk about the resumption of dialogue between Russia and France. This was announced to Izvestia on February 12 at the Russian Embassy in Paris.

"At present, it is too early to talk about the prospects for dialogue between Russia and France, as well as the restoration of full—scale bilateral cooperation," Russian diplomats said.

Recently, statements have been regularly made from Paris about the need to restore dialogue with Moscow.

"At the same time, these words significantly contrast with the public statements of President Emmanuel Macron and Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barraud. The flow of accusations against our country of "war crimes" in Ukraine, interference in the internal affairs of France and other far—fetched violations continues," the Russian Embassy said.

At the same time, there are sporadic French-Russian contacts at various levels, the diplomatic mission said. Last July, for example, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.

"In short, it is premature to talk about restoring full—fledged relations," the Russian mission stressed.

In recent years, trade between the two countries has declined sharply, which is causing significant damage, first of all, to French businesses operating in Russia.

"We do not interfere with the activities of French companies in our country, but we regret to observe the pressure they are subjected to by the French authorities," the Russian diplomats said.

The diplomatic mission stated that cultural ties have suffered, which are mainly supported by the activities of two Russian centers in Paris — the Russian Orthodox Spiritual and Cultural Center (RDKPC) and the Russian House of Science and Culture (RDNA).

"There are still areas that have avoided negative impact. First of all, we are talking about the memorial work of the embassy with an emphasis on Victory Day. At a time when Russian monuments are being destroyed in many European countries, in 2025 we were able to restore and restore monuments at the burial sites of Soviet citizens who participated in the French resistance and prisoners of Nazi concentration camps. In addition, a monument to Alexander Pushkin was erected in Paris," the Russian Embassy in France explained.

They also recalled that in 2026, the "most important event" will be the opening in the city of Thiel, together with Belarus and the city hall, of a large memorial complex in honor of the Soviet women's partisan detachment Rodina, which was part of the French Resistance.

On February 10, Macron invited several European leaders to resume dialogue with Russia. The French leader noted that Paris had restored the channel of communication with Moscow at a technical level, and expressed hope that in the future the EU would develop an "organized approach" for contacts with Russia.

At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the existence of contacts between Russia and France at the technical level. He added that the Russian Federation has always advocated maintaining dialogue and warned about the dangers of bringing relations to a "zero state." At the same time, the presidential press secretary noted that at the moment there have been no such initiatives from other European countries.

Later, Peskov said that Macron was not trying to establish contact with Putin. He recalled the words of the Russian president about the preference for direct contacts with Europe due to the existence of strong disagreements. Such problems can be solved only through dialogue, Peskov noted.
