The University of Economics building in Donetsk, damaged by the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack, has been restored

In Donetsk, the reconstruction of the main building of the Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade, destroyed after a Ukrainian missile strike, has been completed. Tugan-Baranovsky, the Izvestia correspondent reported on February 12.

In August 2023, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) launched a direct attack from the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system on the main building of the university. The building was almost completely destroyed by fire.

In less than six months, a single customer in the field of construction and the Olimpstroy contractor restored the building. Work began in April 2025, and was completed by December 15.

"At the moment, the building is undergoing certification by the Ministry of Emergency Situations. As you can see, the building has been completely restored from the ashes. In the near future, most likely before September 1, students will start their classes here," said correspondent Evgeny Bykovsky.

Oksana Burito, Vice-Rector for Economic Affairs, said that after the restoration of the building, the portrait of the scientist Tugan-Baranovsky, after whom the educational institution is named, returned to its place.

"The story of this portrait is very unique. It is located where it was during the fire. The epicenter was two meters away. The metal structures were rolled into wire. We took him away and returned him home," she said.

On August 5, 2023, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck Donetsk, presumably with cluster shells. According to eyewitnesses, as a result of the shelling, the building of the Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade in the Voroshilovsky district of the city caught fire.

Tugan-Baranovsky Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade is a leading scientific and educational center in Donbass. Over the 100 years of its activity, the university has produced more than 120 thousand professionals.
