Viktor Vasin, who is being tried in the case of the attempted murder of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev, said in court that he dissuaded the perpetrator of the assassination attempt Lubomir Korba and hoped that he would not commit murder. "I admit my guilt. There was a possibility of preventing an assassination attempt, I dissuaded him (Korba. — Ed.), hoping that he would not go for it. I am cooperating with the investigation, and I deeply regret it," Vasin said.

It is specified that the man has a higher military education, he may face a life sentence.

In addition, the investigator stated in court about the possible involvement of the Ukrainian special services in the assassination attempt and said that the investigation continues to look for other participants.

"The organized group included, among others, persons who are allegedly employees of the special services of Ukraine," he said.

The assassination attempt on General Alekseev became known on February 6 in Moscow. The victim was hospitalized. The next day, February 7, Alekseev regained consciousness. A criminal case has been opened into the incident. Subsequently, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was informed that an article on encroachment on the life of a military man had been added to the case.

Later, on February 9, the participants in the assassination attempt Korba and Vasin Sr. pleaded guilty to the crime. The next day, it became known about the detention of the third person involved, Pavel Vasin. As noted in the FSB of the Russian Federation, Korba was trained at a shooting range in Kiev and was recruited by the SBU with the assistance of Poland.
