Professor, ophthalmic surgeon Igor Aznauryan said that laser vision correction is considered one of the safest and most predictable procedures in modern medicine. Nevertheless, many patients postpone it for years, guided by outdated stereotypes.

In an interview with Radio 1 on February 10, the specialist noted that the main barrier is psychological in nature: people imagine a difficult and painful operation. According to him, modern technologies have made the procedure as comfortable as possible, and to reduce anxiety, it can be performed under conditions of drug—induced sleep - the patient falls asleep and wakes up with improved eyesight.

The expert also said that the widespread fear of repeated visual impairment after correction with a competent approach is not justified. He explained that a lot depends on the technology used. Today, individualized methods are used in which the laser takes into account the characteristics of the cornea of a particular patient, which ensures high accuracy and stable results.

Aznauryan added that the safety of modern operations is confirmed by statistics: intraoperative complications are extremely rare. According to him, an additional confirmation of the effectiveness of the method is that doctors themselves often choose it for themselves.

In January Pravda.Ru She wrote that laser vision correction has a number of contraindications: it is not performed in patients under the age of 18, as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The procedure is not recommended for severe dry eye syndrome, glaucoma, cataracts and corneal diseases. In addition, the intervention is postponed in the presence of active infectious or inflammatory processes until full recovery.

In October, ophthalmologist Irina Zakharova noted that laser vision correction is allowed before and after childbirth. According to her, surgery should not be performed during pregnancy and lactation. Laser vision correction can provide stable results for a long time, but if there are contraindications, the doctor may suggest alternative solutions. 360.ru .

Earlier, ophthalmologist Erica Eskina noted that this procedure should not be performed for glaucoma, keratoconus, central retinal pathologies and autoimmune diseases, writes RT.

Prior to this, the leading laser surgeon, Professor Tatiana Shilova, said that laser vision correction is contraindicated during pregnancy. The main reason for the ban is the instability of vision.
