Unemployment in North Ossetia is three times higher than the national average
The unemployment rate in North Ossetia is at a high level — it turned out to be three times higher than the average in Russia. Vladimir Putin stated this on February 11 at a meeting with the head of the Republic of North Ossetia —Alania, Sergey Menyailo. The President also drew attention to the recession in the construction sector and the problem of water leakage in the region's housing and communal services systems. He also instructed the local authorities not to forget about the Beslan tragedy. The head of the region said that an interactive museum has already started operating on the territory of the restored school No. 1.
What was discussed at the meeting
Sergey Menyailo spoke about the work on the museum, which is dedicated to the tragedy that happened in Beslan: in September, its first stage was already opened in the city. The exhibition is located on the territory of the restored school No. 1, which was seized by terrorists on September 1, 2004. "This year we will do the second stage, and then the museum will be fully completed with interactive content... We've built an interactive museum there.: It's like a schoolyard inside a restored school, and there's an interactive whiteboard around the perimeter where all the terrorist acts in Russia [are listed] — both Krasnogorsk and Kizlyar," he stressed.
Vladimir Putin instructed the local authorities to continue to rehabilitate the victims of the terrorist attack in Beslan. Against this background, the head of the region suggested that the president transfer the Mothers of Beslan Foundation, which provides social protection for victims of terrorist attacks, to the federal level. Good. This is an all—Russian pain. <...> We should never forget about it," the president agreed.
As for the republic's indicators, the gross regional product (GRP) increased by 50 billion rubles in 2025, reaching 355 billion rubles, said Sergey Menyailo. The authorities are also working to increase the revenue side of the budget of North Ossetia and whitewash economic sectors. In 2025, an additional 6.3 billion rubles were attracted to the budget.
The unemployment rate in North Ossetia is three times higher than the average for the Russian Federation, and employment problems in the region persist, the president noted. The situation will be improved by the implementation of the logistics hub project in the North–South transport corridor, which, according to the head of the region, will create 8,5 thousand jobs.
There has been a decline in the construction sector in the republic, the head of state noted. Sergey Menyailo confirmed this, but clarified that there is already an increase. The president also pointed out the leakage of water in the housing and communal services of North Ossetia. A pilot project to modernize housing and communal services and infrastructure is being implemented in the region. The construction of a 156 km new water pipeline will help solve the problem.
32 measures are being implemented in the republic to support the participants of the special operation and their families. In particular, there is a program for allocating residential housing with a land plot. The fixed cost of such housing is 6.5 million rubles, with the first installment of 30% paid by the republic. The head of the region also spoke about the educational program for military personnel, after which the heroes of the SVO are appointed advisers to school principals for military-patriotic education. Vladimir Putin supported this idea.
