The court sentenced a Georgian mercenary from the Armed Forces of Ukraine to life in prison

A court has sentenced Georgian mercenary Georgy Chubetidze, who shot dead five Russian servicemen in Donbas, to life in prison. This was reported on February 11 on the website of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

"The evidence was found by the court to be sufficient to sentence a Georgian citizen in absentia <...>. Chubetidze was sentenced by the court to life imprisonment to be served in a special—regime penal colony," the ministry said.

Chubetidze was found guilty of committing two episodes of a crime under the article on the participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict and four episodes of a crime under the article encroachment on the life of a serviceman.

The ministry also reports that from October 2014 to November 2023, Chubetidze, as part of various Ukrainian armed formations, participated as a mercenary in an armed conflict against representatives of the DPR, LPR and Russian military forces. It is emphasized that he received a reward for this.

The ministry also added that during his participation in the armed conflict, Chubetidze committed the murder of five servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces. Earlier it was reported that in the fall of 2023, the mercenary was captured.

Earlier, on January 27, a court sentenced Finnish mercenary Vyasyanen Harri, who participated in the fighting as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to 14 years in prison in absentia. It is specified that the mercenary was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Mercenary activity"). In addition to sentencing, Harry was also put on the international wanted list.
