On February 11, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed to the ambivalent position of United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres regarding Crimea, Donbas and Greenland.

The Russian Foreign Minister recalled that UN official representative Stephane Dujarric stated that the international organization recognizes the right of the people of Greenland to self-determination, in accordance with the principles of the organization's Charter.

After that, Lavrov said, the Russian side sent an official appeal to Guterres asking why the principle of self-determination applies to Greenland, and why the UN Charter and respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine should be guided in relation to Donbass and Crimea.

"It's no longer a secret. The other day, our Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, visited Guterres and asked how this was happening. Guterres said that everything is right here. It applies to Greenland, but the Charter does not apply to those territories that Russia has "aggressively attacked." And it's useless to talk to him," the Russian Foreign Minister said in an interview with the Empathy Manuchi Internet project.

On January 29, Russia appealed to the UN with a request to recognize the rights of the peoples of the new regions to self-determination after the organization recognized the right of the inhabitants of Greenland to decide on belonging to a particular country. Lavrov also expressed doubt about the impartiality of the organization's leadership, which supports forces that seek to preserve the "Nazi regime" in Ukraine.

Guterres said on January 29 that the principle mentioned by Lavrov was not applicable to Crimea and Donbas, unlike Greenland. According to him, he and his colleagues came to this conclusion after a thorough review of the case by the Office of Legal Affairs.
